Luckily for boat lovers, Sarasota also features plenty of waterfront homes allowing easy access to the area’s best asset, the ocean.

So go on, throw the lifejackets on board, invite the friends and family, it’s time to go boating in Sarasota! Here’s a look at our best boating communities we’d love to call home.

  1. Harbor Acres
    • Located a stone’s throw from Downtown Sarasota, Harbor Acres features some of Florida’s most iconic architecture and homes, most of which also have docks. Don’t expect your typical cookie-cutter style neighborhood here. Instead, this exclusive community overlooking Sarasota Bay is complete with a variety of styles of homes, from elegant estates to Old Florida charm. Residents of Harbor Acres enjoy the ease of access to lively entertainment districts like Hillview and Siesta Key, not to mention the world that awaits when traveling by vessel.
  2. Siesta Key
    • An area so popular, it has its own television show. Siesta Key is a world-famous barrier island that stretches along Sarasota. Here, residents and guests alike have access to the perfectly cool quartz sand on Siesta Key Beach. Additionally, Siesta Key features coves of neighborhoods with access to both the Gulf of Mexico and the intracoastal waterways. On the north end of the island, you’ll find the thriving Siesta Key Village featuring restaurants, nightlife and shops; on the south end of the island, you’ll find a sleepy more residential area with waterfront estates lining Midnight Pass Road. Many homes here feature direct access with their own private docks, but there are also ample marinas for storage. Some of our favorite neighborhoods for boaters on Siesta Key are Hidden Harbor, Riegels Landing and Siesta Cove.
  3. Casey Key
    • Perhaps the most exclusive area in Sarasota County, Casey Key is an 8-mile barrier island where mansions look out onto both the beach and bay. Yes, that’s right, here, residents have access to the beach and boating water – if that’s not a boater’s paradise, we don’t know what is. The island is accessed by small bridges on either end and is far more secluded than any other boating community. The privacy is worth it though. On any given day, a trip on the boat here will yield ample dolphins, turtles, stingrays and other life.
  4. Bird Key
    • Bird Key is located just over the  John Ringling Causeway Bridge and features around 500 homes, most of which have access to the canals and bay. For those who don’t have direct access to the ocean, there’s no worries – Bird Key Yacht Club offers plenty of storage. This iconic neighborhood is perfectly situated between Downtown Sarasota and St. Armands Circle, providing for plenty of shopping, dining and entertainment.
  5. Southbay
    • Located down South in Osprey, Southbay is a thriving boating community of established homes. Not only do most homes sit directly on the water, Southbay has its own community-owned marina that stores boats up to 55-feet long. Additionally, residents enjoy a ton of amenities here, from walking trails, a club house, tennis courts and a heated swimming pool.
